Our Lady of Guadalupe
Mary appeared four times to the indigenous convert St. Juan Diego, asking that a church be built. As proof, she filled his tilma with Castilian roses in winter — and when he opened it before the bishop, her image appeared upon the cloth. That tilma is still venerated today, undecayed after nearly five centuries. Within a decade, some nine million Aztecs were baptized.
'Am I not here, who am your Mother? Are you not under my shadow and protection?'
